Children's rooms Four years and up
Bedroom for a young girl.
At this stage, from four to about eight years, you can work with your child to adapt the neutral nursery to a more defined scheme.
A good way to start for a girl is to find out what her favourite colour is and ask her to choose from a paint chart or a selection of wallpaper. This can then be applied to a single wall, a section of wall or the whole room and will help with the choice of bedlinen and other soft furnishings.
HOW TO MAKE IT WORK
Your child will probably have grown out of their cot/bed by now, so a new bed may be needed. At this age an enclosed area or den is great fun you could consider, for example, incorporating a raised bed with a tented area beneath.
A small table and chairs within the room for craft, Lego and puzzle activities is useful. Artwork can be attached with magnets to a painted steel rail screwed to the wall.
Toys and general paraphernalia are on the increase at this age so plenty of storage and display areas are essential. Use large baskets for big toys and display delicate smaller items on small, higher shelves. General play items can go on lower shelves that are within easy reach.
